MEMT 450 & Cory Mays bring you:
An analysis of Simple Gifts

*The Simple Gifts melody is based on the original Shaker tune by Joseph Brackett.  Used as a song about easy living, this melody originally encorporated dancing by the Shakers to relax, unwind and, quite simply, enjoy life.

*The arrangement shown here encompasses the original melody, divided and arranged into SAB format with piano accompaniment.  Arranged by John Leavitt, this piece is short (1:52), fairly basic and incredibly rewarding for 9th/10th grade choirs.  To learn more about other compositio/arrangements by John Leavitt, please visit: Music of John Leavitt
