Welcome to an Introduction to Curwen Hands Signs

You may be asking what exactly are Curwen Hand signs. Simply put they are a set of hand symbols that correspond with Solfege. The main goal of this web site is to instruct on the proper use of these hand signs.

Solfege is probably best known from the movie "Sound of Music". The song "Do a Deer" is a basic song for the instruction of Solfege. It starts with Do and continues like this: Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, and Ti then it starts over again at Do. Here is an illustration of what this looks like when notated.

The goal of this web site is to introduce these handsigns one by one and then explain how they can be used together. Each sign will also include the pitch that it corresponds to if using the "Fixed Do" system, or a type of Solfege where the pitches remains constant. I hope you will find this useful. Happy learning.
